Welcome to the homepage of the Division of Private Occupational Schools (DPOS), Colorado Department of Higher Education. This website is designed to provide consumers, students and businesses with current information and resources regarding private occupational schools. DPOS is responsible for providing educational standards for private occupational schools and protecting the public interest against substandard schools. All private occupational schools are required to be licensed with DPOS. A private occupational school, or proprietary school, is a privately owned and operated post-secondary school that charges tuition to primarily teach vocational or occupational skills. There are over 300 private occupational schools licensed in Colorado to offer education and training in career fields as diverse as computer technology, nursing, real estate, cosmetology, massage therapy and trucking. The Colorado Board of Private Occupational Schools, consisting of seven members appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate have the vested authority in establishing educational standards, ethical business practices and financial responsibility and determining whether applicants (prospective schools) are qualified to operate a private occupational school. Career and Technical Education: National Institute for Metalworking Skills
National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) Credentialing Workshop The Bureau of Career and Technical Education is presenting a National Institute for Metalworking Skills, Inc. (NIMS) credentialing workshop in collaboration with James Wall, Deputy Director of NIMS. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Berks Career and Technical Center, Leesport beginning at 8:30 am and ending at 2:00 pm. This workshop will provide the opportunity to ask specific questions regarding credentialing and certification. Participants will be able to tour the Metalworking facilities at the Berks CTC. Instructors who are already certified are invited to attend in order to explore the possibility of forming a statewide association of metalworking instructors. Swainsboro Technical College Area Education and Career Partnership
The Education and Career Partnership (ECP ) grant is being awarded throughout Georgia in order to meet the new content and focus requirements of the reauthorized Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006. The 2006 Perkins Act focuses on several themes including increased accountability for results, enhanced coordination within the Career Technical Education system, stronger academic and technical course integration, stronger connections between secondary and post secondary education and stronger links to business and industry. Purpose The Swainsboro Technical College Area Education and Career Partnership will serve to support local career and technical education programs. Local area partners will develop, expand, and promote programs of study (Peach State Pathways) which are composed of coherent, articulated sequences of rigorous academic and career related courses commencing in ninth grade and leading students to either an industry-recognized certificate and/or licensure, associate and/or higher college degree, and successful employment. Career Pathway The Swainsboro Area ECP will initially focus on the development of a Therapeutic Services: Nursing career pathway in the Healthcare Science program concentration area. Small Business Development and Agriscience will be discussed in the near future. Career Pathway development will be accomplished through partner assessments workshops and the development of an ECP information portal. Career Pathway presentations and information will be made available to parents and students either by downloading the information from the internet portal, or by scheduling an in-person presentation.
