DANCE COMMUNITY ACADEMY AT WALNUT HILL SCHOOL In addition to the secondary school and summer programs, Walnut Hill is proud to offer after-school programs in dance to children from Metrowest Boston communities. The Program The Walnut Hill School Dance Community Academy's goal is to provide excellent classical training which could serve as a start to a professional career, and to provide all students with an enjoyable artistic experience that promotes growth and fulfillment. Many classes are taught by the same faculty who instruct students in the high school program, and most classes have live musical accompaniment. Important: New students are accepted into the Preliminary Division without audition until the program is filled. New students are accepted into the Lower, Middle, and Upper Division by audition only. For more information or to schedule an audition, contact the Office of the Dance Academy at (508) 650-5042. Preliminary Division (Preballet I & II and Primary) Classes introduce basic dance movements, beginning ballet, and music skills. Levels are carefully constructed for each age group, encouraging rhythm coordination, creativity, and listening skills. Informal presentations are held for parents at the end of the year.

NYPD - Police Academy

Through the Physical Training and Tactics Department, new recruits are physically prepared for the rigors of police work, and tactically prepared for the dangers they may encounter. This is accomplished through extensive training in defensive tactics, straight baton, expandable baton, frisking and cuffing, first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and water rescue skills. The skills learned through regular training are further reinforced in interactive simulations that prepare recruits to address real-life police encounters. Examples of such sessions are the Car Stop Workshop (a two-day workshop conducted at Floyd Bennett Field), and the Tactical Gear Training (a one-day workshop conducted in the main gymnasium). The Physical Training and Tactics Department continually seeks to improve the effectiveness of its training. The unit continues to refine its approach to training recruit officers on an ongoing basis. As an example, when they first entered the Police Academy, about two-thirds are unable to complete the newly instituted physical fitness examination. However, as a result of the Physical Training and Tactics Department’s efforts, over 99 percent of every recruit class since January 2004 has successfully met the new graduation requirement.
