NATIONAL FIRE ACADEMY ANNOUNCES SECOND SEMESTER ENROLLMENT PERIOD TO OPEN
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 National Fire Academy announces second semester enrollment period to open Oct 22, 2002 12:00 PM U. S. Fire Administration The S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy will soon be accepting applications for its second semester residential program The second semester begins April 1, 2003 and ends Sept. 30, 2003. The enrollment and application period for the second semester will officially open Nov. 1 and run through Dec. 31. "Over the years the National Fire Academy has perfected a model of excellence for the development, delivery and evaluation of its residential training programs," said R. David Paulison, U. S. Fire Administrator. "Through these programs, our goal is to help reduce the nation's losses from fire and fire-related hazards." Applications received that are post-marked before Nov. 1, or after Dec. 31 will not be accepte General eligibility requirements include substantial involvement in fire prevention and control, emergency medical services, fire-related emergency management activities or other allied professions. Applicants must also meet specific selection criteria for each course. "The NFA's residential training program consists of specialized training courses as well as advanced management programs," said Denis Onieal, Superintendent of the National Fire Academy. "These resident courses and management programs are equal in difficulty to those at the college level." As a result the American Council on Education annually reviews these courses and programs to make recommendations for credit equivalencies. About the Music Academy Situated on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Music Academy of the West enchants students and audiences alike with its lush surroundings and musical offerings. The campus occupies a garden estate (Miraflores) donated four decades ago by an ardent supporter. The main building was designed by renowned California architect Reginald Johnson. Each summer its halls and gardens are filled with music. Metropolitan Opera stars Lotte Lehmann and Lawrence Tibbett and composer Ernest Bloch are but a few of the illustrious names in music whose collective dream to open a fine musical finishing school on the West Coast came true in the summer of 1947. Since its inception, the mission of the Music Academy of the West has been the rigorous preparation of talented young musicians for professional careers-through private lessons, small ensemble coaching, orchestral and operatic experience and masterclasses. The concept of the masterclass, pioneered by Madame Lehmann, remains at the core of the Academy’s training program. These lessons are open to the public, giving the young artists the invaluable opportunity to perform in front of an audience. The variety of student performances and the opportunity to experience firsthand the performing skills of distinguished faculty provide richly varied musical experiences for students and community. History The Music Academy was born of the realization that there was no summer music school of stature in the western United States that could cultivate and train promising young musical talent intent on professional careers as pianists, singers and instrumentalists.
